Sholokhov Museum is One of the Winners in the Project Contest of the ICOM of Russia

19.03.2019

The inclusive program of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov “In the Don Country Each Cossack is a Fisher” has become the winner in the contest of scripts for the museum classes for children with special mental development and was included in the book of the best museum practices within the project “Inclusive Museum” of the ICOM of Russia.

The Jury selected twelve best museum classes which met the criteria of the competition: focus of the program on the target audience, its elaboration and applied significance. The works were evaluated by an independent expert council consisting of museum specialists, teachers of public organizations working with disabled people, and parents of the children with mental disabilities.

The program “In the Don Country Each Cossack is a Fisher” contributes to socialization of children with mental disabilities. During the adapted tour about the exhibition “At Hunting and Fishing” the young visitors learn about the fish species of the River Don, fishing gear and about fishing hobby of the writer M.A.Sholokhov and his family. During the workshop activity the children make a clay fish model of a carp.

The class is interesting for children and is in demand with their parents. The victory in the contest testifies to the relevance of the program and a high quality of the script.

Other winners of the contest are: the State Darvin Museum, the State Russian Museum, the Museum “Moscow Lights”, the State Museum of A.S.Pushkin, the Museum of Russian Expressionism, the Omsk M.A.Vrubel Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the Oriental Museum, the Ulyanovsk I.A.Goncharov Regional Museum of Local History, the K.I.Timiryazev Biological Museum, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Institute of Russian Realistic Art.

The purpose of the book is to spread successful inclusive projects and help museums seeking to learn or/and improve its work with children with mental disabilities and to create high-quality and effective programs.

We are glad that our program was approved by the independent board of experts. It means we are right in our work on the museum inclusion development.
