M.A.Sholokhov: “I Read Bondarev with Interest”

15.03.2019

On March 15, 2019, it is the 95th birthday anniversary of Yury Vasilyevich Bondarev, a Russian writer and public figure, the winner of the Lenin Prize, two State prizes of the USSR, and of many other awards.

In 1995, Yury Bondarev was the winner of the International M.A.Sholokhov Award in the field of literature and art for the talented and fruitful embodiment of the image of Soviet soldier in the Russian literature about the Great Patriotic War.

Bondarev often met with Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov, visited Vyoshenskaya. In the Museum-Reserve collection there are negatives showing the moments of ceremonies devoted to the 70th anniversary of M.A.Sholokhov. In the picture Y.V.Bondarev is standing among the writers and Heroes of Socialist Labour (the third on the right).

Anatoly Sofronov remembered Sholokhov speaking about the novel “The Strand”: I read Bondarev with interest… He is good at writing…”, and earlier he said praising words about his novel “Hot Snow”.

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov keeps two books with autographs by Yury Bondarev: “To Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov – with the greatest love for the golden word of “And Quiet Flows the Don”, the best book of the XX century, which tops have not been reached yet by anyone. Always sincerely respectful to you. Y.Bondarev. April 5, 1974”; “To dear Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov – with unfailing love for your immense talent. January 30, 1977”.
