Memory Day of M.A.Sholokhov was Marked in Rostov

On February days, the events dedicated to the Memory Day of M.A.Sholokhov took place in Rostov-on-Don. A ceremony of laying flowers at the bust of the writer in Pushkin Street and at his monument at the Don embankment took place on February 21.

The students and teachers of the South Federal University, workers of the Don State Public Library and Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve, and residents of the city gathered in Pushkin Street by the bust of M.A.Sholokhov.

The great writer, the world importance of his works and the reader’s personal perception of Sholokhov’s works were spoken about by P.A.Sholokhov, the writer’s great grandson, head of the department “Sholokhov-Centre”, T.O.Osipova and L.B.Savenkova, prominent Sholokhov scholars. The first-year students and postgraduates of the South Federal University spoke of the value of Sholokhov, his life, his books for them. Scarlet carnations and yellow daffodils were laid at the foot of the bust.

The Don theatres dedicate their performances to the memory of the writer. The Rostov A.Gorky Academic Theatre included in its February repertoire the performances “The Fate of a Man” (director N.Sorokin) and “The Quiet Don” (director G.Shaposhnikov), the Rostov State Puppet Theatre named after V.S.Bylkov shows “The Foal” (director E.Kushnarenko) for children.
