NewsM.A.Sholokhov Memorial Meeting in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya22.02.2019On February 21, 2019, a memorial meeting dedicated to the 35th anniversary from the date of death of M.A.Sholokhov, the great loss for all of us, took place in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, in the Palace of Culture. The tenor of the historical and literary composition “In the Time of Turmoil…” were the events of the Upper Don (Vyoshensky) rebellion, which description became the body of the third book of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov. The writer had fought long for the truth about that Cossack rebellion not to be distorted when editing the third book. March 11, marks the 100th anniversary of the day when in response to the repression against the Cossacks, a revolt broke out, which is the only people’s rebellion in the Russian history undefeated by superior punitive forces. First, the host of the meeting touched on the political situation prevailing in the Don region by the end of 1918, outlined the reasons that forced the people to the revolt. The audience was informed of the view of P.N.Kudinov, the uprising leader, on the events occurred, a number of episodes of that period masterfully presented by the author of the epic novel were reproduced. The will of the people was displayed by the crowd scene – the actors wearing Cossack uniform, and rebellious emotions and the tragedy of the moment were performed by the dance group. The semantic subsections of the text were successfully accompanied by the video sequence consisting of motion pictures reflecting the period of the revolution and the Civil War. The house of the Palace of Culture was full. Veterans and young people of Vyoshenskaya came to touch the memory of the 100-year-old events making the heart of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”, to pay tribute to the genius countryman who told the wide world about the tragedy of the greatest turmoil.
