Museum Classes “Christmas Came – Let’s Sing Carols!”

24.01.2019

In mid-January 2019, over a hundred primary students of Sholokhov gymnasium took part in the interactive museum classes “Christmas Came – Let’s Sing Carols!”

The museum workers organized happy gatherings for the children. Preparing for the classes the children learned Christmas carols, glories, tovsen, sayings for the rite of sowing, found proverbs and signs about Christmas. Together with their parents they prepared different Lenten and Christmas dishes of the Don cuisine.

The museum teachers told about the history of the orthodox holidays celebrated during January 7– 19, the origin of the holidays and Christmas traditions of the Don Cossacks. Smartly dressed girls and boys, like real Christians in old times, in a crowd entered the classroom and recited and sang Christmas carols. The children learned about the church calendar, about the Christian Lent and why New Year is celebrated according to new and old calendar. Then they guessed riddles and played old games of Cossack children.

The classes “Christmas Came – Let’s Sing Carols!” continue. We invite schoolchildren, teachers and parents to get into the world of Cossack old times!

Pre-registration for the classes on the telephone: 23-7-99.
