Editions of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov Published in 2018

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov is engaged in active publishing work and annually presents new editions. In the previous year, there were published modified and supplemented catalogues of the most interesting museum collections and the new issues of periodical editions – a book of collected papers “Vyoshenskiy Vestnik” and journal “Mir Sholokhova”.

The catalogue “The Estate of M.A.Sholokhov” shows over 700 memorial objects which belonged to the writer and his family: autographs, personal belongings, photos and home furnishings. The first edition of the catalogue dedicated to the 20th anniversary of opening the memorial house for visits was issued in 2014, in a small circulation. It was in great demand with the Museum visitors and readers, so the reprinting circulation was increased to 1000 copies.

The catalogues “Clothes of the Upper Don Cossacks in the Late XIX – Early XX Centuries” and “Sholokhov: Biography in Photos. 1905–1941”, which were very interesting for specialists and readers, were also reissued in the previous year.

The catalogue of clothes is based on the items collected by the museum workers in their expeditions around the villages and stanitsas of the former Vyoshenskiy and Yelanskiy yurts (areas) of the Donetsk District of the Don Army Region and on the memories of the Upper Don old-timers about the features of the Cossack traditional costume. The article contains the quotes from the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov, Don proverbs, sayings and fragments of folk songs.

The catalogue of photos consists of two parts: the first part “Touches to the Portrait of M.A.Sholokhov” will show the readers a kind of a photo essay about the life and work of the writer during 1905–1941, about his family, friends, in the second part “Family Album” there are photos of the writer’s family – the wife Mariya Petrovna and their children, their parents, relatives of his father and those of his wife. The article ”On the Ancestry of M.A.Sholokhov” tells about the roots of Sholokhov genus, the lives of the writer’s parents, their brothers and sisters, about the family of Mikhail Alexandrovich and Mariya Petrovna, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Especially valuable are the photos with autographs – kind, apt in Sholokhov’s way, and full of great humour.

The next, the eighteenth issue of the book of collected papers “Vyoshenskiy Vestnik” includes the materials of the XX jubilee Sholokhov Readings –

international scientific and practical conference devoted to the study in the biography and work of M.A.Sholokhov, which took place in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya on September 13, 2018. The authors of the book are the researchers in the writer’s work from Russia, Syria, Japan, and the scientific workers of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

In the next, the ninth and the tenth, issues of the scientific and educational journal “Mir Sholokhova” published in 2018, there are articles by the well-known Russian and foreign researchers about the new full scientific edition of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov, documents connected with the biography and work of the writer, materials from the archives, information about the important events and publications devoted to Sholokhov’s books.
