NewsThe 95th Anniversary of the Sholokhovs’ Wedding Ceremony in Bukanovskaya Church11.01.2019Today it is the 96th anniversary of the wedding ceremony of Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov and Mariya Petrovna Sholokhova in Bukanovskaya Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, which blessed them to have a long happy life together. On that day, January 11, 1924, the young couple registered their marriage in the Podtyolkov registry office (Stanitsa Kumylzhenskaya, the Khopyor Okrug the Tsaritsynsky Region). According to the eyewitnesses the young couple was wedded in the church with lighted chandeliers and all illumination, with the choir led by the regent Ivan Polikarpovich Radin. There are some memories of Mikhail Vasilyevich Selivanov, a resident of Stanitsa Nekhayevskaya, who and his younger sister performed at the wedding party of the would-be Nobel Prize winner. At that time Misha Selivanov was 11. He had perfect pitch and a clear voice, he played the harmonies, balalaika and other musical instruments, was a leading singer. He was famous far beyond the village, and was invited to sing Cossack songs in the house of the Gromoslavskys. Mikhail Vasilyevich remembered: “First, my mother was against it, the family grieved about the died cow, it was not time for fun, we were nearly starving to death. She was begged long”. At the wedding, Pyotr Gromoslavsky was said to marry his daughter to a visiting tax inspector. The father of the bride generously paid off with all the musicians, and Misha and his little sister, besides money, were given big bundles of food. After a couple of days, a cow was brought to the house of the Selivanovs. “The messengers said: ataman Gromoslavsky told us to give you a reward for your fine performance at the wedding party!–Mikhail Vasilyevich remembers. – I remember the Sholokhovs’ wedding for all my life”. Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov and Mariya Petrovna Sholokhova lived together 60 happy years, raised four children, walked side by side through their life sharing joys and sorrows equally.
