Autumn Arbor Day

23.10.2018

On October 19, 2018, the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov held a traditional Arbor Day. The holiday revived on the initiative of V.Y.Golubev, the Rostov Region Governor, was joined by nearly 100 schoolchildren who came to Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya from the Sholokhov, Verkhnedonskoy, Bokovsky, Kashary districts, the cities of Novocherkassk and Krasny Sulin of the Rostov Region, Rudnya Village of the Voronezh Region and from the Republic of Kalmykiya.

The opening ceremony of the holiday was joined by A.N.Palatny, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Rostov Region, and S.G.Bashtura, Deputy Head of the Sholokhov District Administration on the Problems of Agriculture and Environment Conservation.

During the Arbor Day, over 250 seedlings of birch, poplar, linden and oak were planted in the environmental and literary forest park. The planting material was provided by the forestry department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Rostov Region. The workers of the Sholokhov district agricultural department “Les” brought black earth to the forest park for planting seedlings.

The foresters of the Sholokhov and Verkhnedonskoy departments of the Rostov Region Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment took part in planting trees together with the students. The foresters taught the young ecologists to plant the seedling material correctly and estimated the quality of planting.

On that day the children also took part in laying “Forest of “The Quiet Don”: headed by the experienced foresters they planted 20 tree varieties mentioned in the landscape descriptions in the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov – apple-trees, pear-trees, oaks, poplars, willows, birches, elms, maples, and others.

A.N.Palatny, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Rostov Region, thanked all the participants of the Arbor Day and awarded them Thanksgiving Letters of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Rostov Region.

The Arbor Day became a real holiday. The young foresters learned to plant trees correctly and to feel a subtle connection of man and nature. Those who once planted trees will enjoy listening to the quiet whisper of leaves of their green pets.
