NewsExhibition “Russian Cavalry in the Era of the Napoleonic Wars” in Sholokhov Centre01.10.2018On October 12, 2018, Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov will start showing an exhibition “Russian Cavalry in the Era of the Napoleonic Wars” from the collection of the State Borodino Military History Museum-Reserve. The exhibition tells about the historical period of the XVIII–XIX centuries (1796–1815) called the era of the Napoleonic Wars. The residents and guests of Rostov-on-Don will learn about the events of that time and about the rich collection of the Borodino Museum founded on the battlefield by Emperor Nicolas I. Next year the Museum will celebrate its 180th anniversary. The visitors will learn about one of the brightest pages in the history of Russia – the Patriotic War of 1812, will see the unique objects telling about the battles, which shook the fields of Europe, and about the Russian cavalry of the first quarter of the XIX century. The feature of the exhibition is the genuine uniform and equipment of the cavalrymen. The objects, which names are practically unfamiliar to modern man (doloman, mentik, chakchiry, tashka, and others) will certainly cause interest of the visitors and broaden their horizons. The residents and guests of Rostov-on-Don will see relics from the collection of the Museum-Reserve “Borodino Field”: a standard of the Astrakhan cuirassier regiment of 1811, and the finds from the battlefield – cores, grenade fragments, case-shots, gun bullets and much more others. The exhibition shows about 279 units of storage from the collections of graphics, paintings, outfit, archaeology, rare books, arts and crafts. The exhibition “Russian Cavalry in the Era of the Napoleonic Wars” will run during October 12 – December 9, 2018, in Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov in: Rostov-on-Don, 125/69 Bolshaya Sadovaya, daily from 10.00 to 17.00 (Wednesday and Friday from 10.00 to 19.00) no days off.
