“Cossack Village” in Sholokhov-Centre Won the Fans’ Hearts

The Football World Cup matches in Rostov-on-Don were attended by the fans from 103 countries. Most of them visited Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov and took part in the cultural and educational program “Cossack Village”.

The “Cossack Village” with a cheerful music, aroma of dishes of the Cossack cuisine, variegated costumes and fan attributes welcomed everyone who wanted to learn more about the Don country and the Cossacks during the days of the Football World Cup-2018.

With great interest the guests from different countries made ropes on the prosak, ground grain with a handmill, made clay pots on the pottery wheel,made a wattle fence. Both adults and children with pleasure made fabric birds, painted wooden figures, poker-worked, decorated with dried flowers bookmarks and calendars.

A special impression was traditional Cossack cuisine: potato dumplings,ruddy patties,aromatic compote of berries and fruits. Just here the tourists were given culinary lessons, taught how to cook noodles, and the foreigners diligently rolled the dough and cut it in narrow strips.

The exhibition of old photos attracted the visitors and invited them to have a photo taken for memory, and the guests took their photos showing them wearing unusual Cossack costumes and made in the interior of the old photo studio to their homes in different parts of the world.

The fans were brightly impressed with the Cossack dance party, where they were taught by Cossack men and women how to dance “polka”, “padespan”,”narechenku” and “krakowiak”. The viewers applauded to the dancers and made pictures of them on their telephones.

There was an improvised post office, where any guest could write and send a postcard “From Russia with Love” to their family anywhere in the world from the World Cup-2018.

The guests will be reminded of the days spent in Rostov by the Don souvenirs: a doll Cossack man and woman, Shchukar, Sholokhov themed plates and mugs, bags of the Don fragrant herbs.

For a long time the fans will remember the atmosphere of the global football feast, the joy of communicating with representatives of other countries, the hospitality and cordiality of the hosts. The meetings in the “Cossack Village” left bright impressions and proved once again that football and culture unite peoples and nations.
