Croatia Ambassador Visited Sholokhov-Centre

On 26 June, 2018, Sholokhov-Centre was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia in the Russian Federation, Tonchi Stanichich, who came to Rostov-on-Don for the World Cup match of his country’s national team.

The Ambassador and his party attended the exhibition “The Don.Sholokhov.Russia” showing memorial objects from the House-Museum of the writer in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, his manuscripts, books in foreign languages and other unique exhibits. Tonchi Stanichich noted that Mikhail Sholokhov is one of his favourite writers.

The Ambassador of Croatia visited “Cossack Village”, which was opened in the museum yard during the Football World Cup Games, had his photo taken in the interior of the old photo studio, saw how a device of old prosak and a hand mill work, and tasted traditional Cossack dishes. “In Croatia we have heard much about Cossacks and now we have a wonderful chance to see Cossack traditions and customs”, – said Tonchi Stanichich. In autumn, representatives of Croatia are going to come to the Rostov Region to discuss cooperation including the sphere of tourism.

The Ambassador noted a high level of organization of the Football World Cup Games in Russia and expressed his hope to see the Croatian team in Moscow,in the semifinal and in the final.

The match of Croatia – Iceland began at the stadium “Rostov Arena” on June 26, at 21.00, and ended with the victory of the Croatian national team, which was supported by nearly 4000 Croatian fans.
