Exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” is Opened in Mumbai

An opening ceremony of the exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” took place on May 12, 2018, in the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Mumbai. The exhibition was organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo Agency in India and the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve under the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The opening ceremony was joined by A.N.Zhiltsov, Consul General of Russia in Mumbai; V.V.Dementyev, Deputy Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Agency in India and Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Mumbai; O.A.Anistratenko, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, V.V.Sholokhova, Deputy Head of the Museum-Reserve; E.M.Tolstopyatenko and I.V.Panchenko, Museum researchers; teachers of the Mumbai educational institutions including professors V.Gaekvad, R.P.Vare, Meher Master Mousse, students of Russian, writers and literary scholars, journalists, representatives of the public and compatriots.

Greeting the audience O.A.Anistratenko noted that under the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo Agency in India the exhibition was shown in the past year in New Delhi and this year it will run in Mumbai and then in Chennai. “In India we are received warmly and cordially. We are grateful to you for your interest for the work of M.A.Sholokhov and are glad to have a chance of telling you about the great Russian writer, who confirmed his love for his native land and his people with the whole life of his”,– underlined the director of the Museum.

The first visitors viewed the exhibition showing photos of the writer himself, illustrations to his works, historical photos and drawings telling about the life of the Cossacks. The visitors were especially attracted by the articles of clothing, Cossack housewares: a Cossack hat (papakha), a traditional whip, women’s shawls, and others.

After the exhibition opening ceremony, the representatives of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov and the Indian partners discussed the prospects for cooperation and advancement of Russian culture in India and Indian culture in Russia.
