NewsEnvironmental Orienteering in the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov26.04.2018On April 25, 2018, a competition “Ecoorienteering” was held in the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. It was joined by 17 teams of young ecologists from the Rostov Region, Elista (Kalmykia), Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria), Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia), the Lugansk People’s Republic, Daryinskoye Village and from Uralsk (the Kazakhstan Republic). The competition was aimed at learning about the features of different ecosystems, at research development and ability to navigate the terrain. Environmental orienteering has its own characteristics distinguishing it from the sports kind of such competitions. Here the children are guided on the terrain by various components of natural landscapes, and all the assignments are aimed at environmental education, and are interesting and entertaining. At the starting station, the teams received routing activity sheets and location coordinates of the seven thematic stations. While passing through the control points the children showed their knowledge in topography and terrain orientation skills. They determined visually the width of the pond and steepness of the sandy slope, guessed the birds and beasts they saw in the forest thicket, solved the riddles and rebuses on the topics of environment. The winner in the “Ecoorienteering” competition was the team from school 15, the Republic of Kalmykia. We congratulate the guys on this success! We thank all the teams for their active participation in the competition.
