26.04.2018

The exhibition “Holiday Postcard for the Favourite Writer” is dedicated to the Holiday of Spring and Labour. It will run on April 30, and May 1, in the interactive area “Entertaining Hamlet”. The visitors will be shown Soviet postcards of the period 1950 –1980, from the archives of the Sholokhovs’ family.

A great number of postcards, letters and telegrams came to Mikhail Alexandrovich daily from different parts of our country and from abroad.

The Day of International Workers' Solidarity was one of the main state holidays in the Soviet Union, and thousands of people hastened to congratulate their favourite writer on May Day and wish him a success in his work. There are some of the congratulations:

“Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich! I congratulate you on the coming holiday of the 1 of May! I wish you long years of life and to write more and more good books. Anatoly Rudenko, the Stavropol Territory, 1958”;

“Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich! I congratulate you and your family on the holiday of the First of May and wish you good health, big happiness and excellent success in life and in your fruitful work. I wish you lasting peace throughout the world. Respectfully, yours, I.Petrov, 1965”;

“Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich! We congratulate you, Mariya Petrovna and your family on the joyful holiday of the First of May. We wish you many bright and joyful days of life, good health. The meeting with you in Moscow will remain in my memory as a great, bright and joyful holiday. Thank you for your cordial involvement and fatherly care. The Nozdratenkos’ family, Odessa”.

Some congratulations are written in verse.

The exhibition shows postcards made by the artists N.Pavlov (1958), N.Ponomaryov (1963), I.Chibisov (1964), A.Pletnyov (1965), I.Dergilyov (1968), N.Kolesnikov (1969), T.Panchenko (1981), and many others.

For memory the visitors can buy a postcard of the Soviet model – an exact copy of the one sent to M.A.Sholokhov.
