“Brilliant World of Alexander Grin” in the Country of Vyoshenskaya

10.04.2018

On April 6, 2018, the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House” opened the exhibition “Brilliant World of Alexander Grin” from the collection of the Historical and Cultural Memorial Museum-Reserve “Cimmeria of M.A.Voloshin”.

Alexander Stepanovich Grin (the real name is Grinevsky) is a Russian writer, wonderful novelist, mystic and romantic. His works began to be published in 1906; in all, there are nearly 400 works. Among them there are the most well-known novels “Brilliant World”, “Running on the Waves” and a story “Scarlet Sails”.

The writer spent the last years of his life in the Old Crimea. There his dream of home and garden came true – shortly before his death he moved to the only house of his, where the Memorial House-Museum of A.S. Grin was opened.

For the first time outside the Memorial House the personal belongings of Alexander Grin, which had been accompanying him for many years, are shown: a chest, a casket for storing letters, a candlestick bought by the writer in the house of the Aivazovskys from the painter’s widow, a mechanical bell, an armchair, which the writer worked in, and the objects that decorated the life of the writer's family – a miniature coffeepot, a stylish flower vase, a napkin crocheted by the women of the family – keeping a comfort and warmth of the family house.

The exhibition tells about the life events in the Old Crimea and about the traditions, of which the brightest is an annual creative holiday “Scarlet Sails” founded in the 1960s. At dawn of the birthday of Alexander Grin, the admirers of the writer’s work raise a scarlet sail on the Agarmysh Mount over the Old Crimea.

There is a display of paintings, sculptures and drawings by the modern artists developing Grin’s theme and showing his favourite Cimmerian places – T. Gagarina (St-Petersburg), V.Kashin (Kirov), V.Solo (Koktebel), V.Adeyev (Sebastopol), S.Malyshev (Feodosiya), A. Cherkasov (Nuremberg, Germany), V. Derkachenko (Santa-Monika, the USA) and the photo works by L. Matveyev (Sebastopol), A. Migov (St-Petersburg – the Old Crimea).

Before the exhibition opening ceremony, the first visitors were shown the film “Scarlet Sails by Alexander Grin” made by the “Excite Film Studio” (the film director N.Brusentsev, Moscow). The exhibition was opened by Olga Alexandrovna Anistratenko, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. She congratulated the guests on the day of bright Easter and noted that it was

Vyoshenskaya where the first travelling exhibition in the life of the Memorial House of Alexander Grin came, and expressed her hope that all the dreams of the guests would surely come true, it is only necessary to strive for this.

Tatyana Alexandrovna Syadneva, Deputy Head of the Sholokhov District Administration, thanked the organizers for the fine exhibition and said you would like to come here again and to re-read the works by A.S.Grin.

Natalya Mikhailovna Miroshnichenko, Deputy General Director of the Museum-Reserve “Cimmeria of M.A.Voloshin” told about the idea of the exhibition, about the support of the project by the Ministry of Culture of the Crimean Republic and underlined that opening the exhibition on the eve of the bright holidays of Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos and Easter underline the meaning of the “Brilliant World” image.

Olga Vadimovna Baiburtskaya, Head of the House-Museum of A.S.Grin, noted a close connection of time and importance of traditions for cultural development, made an excursion about the exhibition and answered the questions. The visitors did not hurry to leave the hall, again approached the stands and showcases, and shared their impressions.
