03.04.2018

On March 30, 2018, the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House” opened the exhibition “Kursk Great Bulge” from the Belgorod State Historical Artistic Museum-Diorama. The exhibition materials tell about the fighting in the Belgorod destination of the Kursk bulge.

The main idea of the exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the great battle is to underline once again the historical role of the Kursk battle, a radical change in the course of the Second World War, to show a mass heroism and resistance of the Red Army soldiers, preservation of historical memory and formation of patriotic consciousness of the museum visitors.

The opening ceremony was joined by Olga Anistratenko, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, Larisa Goncharova, Head of the sector of the tour department of the Museum-Diorama “Kursk Battle. Belgorod Destination”, students and residents of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. O.Anistratenko welcomed the audience and thanked the colleagues of the project for the great work in preparation of the exhibition and wished a success of the project and interest of the visitors.

At the exhibition the visitors will see the banners of the armies taking part in the Kursk battle and liberating Belgorod, samples of small arms and cold steel, photographs, documents and battle awards of the Red Army soldiers and commanders. In one of the showcases there is an image of the Red Army infantryman dressed in the uniform of 1943. There is displayed a knapsack, a cigarette lighter, a cigarette case, a mug, a jar, a sapper small vane, a fuel mixture flask, a submachine gun of the Shpagin system 1941, which was adopted by the Red Army before the war began. Before the Second World War there were produced over 6 million submachine guns, which enabled to arm the entire infantry units with the submachine guns.

The first exhibition area shows an improvised firing position, a RKKA rifle shield with a 7.62mm Mosin rifle and a 7.62mm Maxim machine gun of 1910, designed by an American armourer Hyrem Stevens Maxim. It was widely used during the First and the Second World wars, as well as in many small wars and armed conflicts of the XX century. It was in service until 1946, and was used in open combat to support infantry.

There is a complex “Tank Troops in the Battle of Kursk”.

As well, the exhibition shows the role of artillery in the battle of Kursk. There are artillery fire sleeves, an artillery lock for the 76-mm gun of the Great Patriotic War time, a tanker uniform.

A part of the exhibition tells about participation of female military personnel in military operations. There are uniform clothes (a field shirt, a skirt and a forage-cap) and the objects found at the battlefields of the Belgorod Region. They show that women even at war wanted to be beautiful: a blouse made of parachute silk, curling irons, a comb bearing a name "Anna".

The exhibition will show photos, uniforms and arming of the German fascist troops taking part in the battles of the Kursk Bulge.

The exhibition will run during March 30 – June 12, 2018, from 9.00 to 16.00, in the People’s House of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov: 66, Podtyolkov Str., Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. Day-off is Monday.
