NewsA Memorable Visit of Sholokhov to Czechoslovakia03.04.201860 years ago, in early April 1978, M.A.Sholokhov visited Czechoslovakia, where at that time Mariya Petrovna, his wife, and his younger daughter Mariya rested. During his stay Mikhail Alexandrovich visited historical places, met with Czechoslovakian writers including the writer and journalist Frantisek Kubka, who later wrote a big article about Sholokhov. The members of the meeting spoke about the Cossacks, about the first appearance of Cossacks on the land of Czechoslovakia. Mikhail Alexandrovich expressed his regret that a full history of the Cossacks had not been written yet taking into account new modern knowledge. “This would be an amazing epic”,–he added. After the meetings and talks with Czechoslovakian colleagues many of Sholokhov’s phrases were circulated as quotations including his words about nature, its importance in the life of man and influence on creative work. It was there that Mikhail Alexandrovich said: “I like travelling around the world, and especially because it gives me an opportunity of looking forward to a joy of returning home, to my Cossack nest, where I know everyone and where everyone knows me…” In Czechoslovakia, like in many other countries, where he happened to be, Sholokhov bought flower seeds, which he planted then in his garden. That memorable visit of M.A.Sholokhov to Czechoslovakia was informative and fruitful.
