The 75th Anniversary of Liberation of Rostov from the German Fascist Invaders

15.02.2018

A meeting “At the Crossroads of the Lives: War. City. People” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of liberation of Rostov-on-Don from German fascist invaders took place in the literary and musical sitting-room of Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.

The meeting was participated by students and schoolchildren. They were welcomed by N.Kazinskaya, Head of Sholokhov-Centre, and A.Ivanova-Ilyichova, Candidate of Architecture, a docent of the department for history of architecture, art and architectural restoration of the Academy of Architecture and Arts of the South Federal University.

The battles for the city, which began on February 8, 1943, lasted several days, and on February 14, Rostov was liberated from the invaders. The war maimed the city. Each two houses of three lay in ruins. Only 6 enterprises out of 274 miraculously survived. The “Rostselmash”, schools and hospitals, theatres and libraries, institutes and clubs were destroyed. Not a single bridge survived in the city including the railway bridge over the River Don. The grandiose building of the Rostov M.Gorky theatre included in the textbooks of the world architecture was blown up.

The students and teachers of the department of history of architecture, art and architectural restoration of the Academy of Architecture and Arts – docents A.Buchka and T.Sukhorukova, teacher I.Moskalenko and student E.Dmitriyeva – told in their talks about the history of the monuments of architecture destroyed during the Great Patriotic War.

The students of the Rostov S.Rakhmaninov State Conservatory, the Rostov College of Arts and the Institute of Water Transport performed songs of the war years in their concert program.
