Environmental Classes for Kindergarten Children

08.02.2018

The workers of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov gave an interactive class “Feed Birds in Winter” for the children of “Romashka” kindergarten 2 of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. This meeting opened a cycle of environmental classes “Visiting EcoKnowAll”.

Human life is inseparably connected with nature, and it is important from early childhood to cultivate a careful and quivering attitude towards it. The children were told that not all birds fly south, and in winter they should be fed when the birds can’t get feed from under snow. Each handful of grain in the feeder can save more than one bird life.

The children learned which birds overwinter in the Upper Don area and many interesting things about them: for example, a titmouse eats 100 caterpillars a day, a magpie can distinguish himself in the mirror, and a crow has the intelligence of a five-year-old child. The children learned how to make feeders from improvised materials, which are easy to make, environmentally friendly and safe for winged friends. Some children of the class have feeders made with their parents’ assistance at home, other children decided to make such feeders when at home.

The boys and girls understood the main thing: not only adults, but also children can help birds, and in return they will please us with a cheerful chirping and protect the gardens and parks from pests.
