NewsMuseum Classes for Schoolchildren30.01.2018The classes based on the materials of the exhibition “In All Outfit You are Nice, My Deary!” were given for the 5–11 form schoolchildren of the secondary school of Vyoshenskaya in the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House”. During the class the children looked into the exhibits from the collections of the Starocherkassk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, learned about the evolution of the costume of the Don Cossacks women. They could compare clothes and hats of the XVI century to those of the XIX and XX centuries, and learned about the peculiarities and modes of wearing the costume jewelry and accessories. The young researchers examined the ornamental patterns made of silk threads, beads and the River Don pearls as decorations for the dresses and headwear of Cossack women and noted the use of geometrical forms and floral motifs on them. Having studied the exhibition materials the children could see the results of their knowledge doing tests from the guidebook which included problem questions, a test, a crossword and rebuses, and expressed their self-esteem using emoticons. The classes were ended with a workshop on making a big hatpin of foamiran (plastic suede). Such hatpins had been an essential attribute of the bonnet for more than a thousand years. The young masters decorated their hatpins showing their efficiency and creativity.
