A Unifying Force of the Native Language

On November 16, 2017, the Institute of Sociology and Regional Studies located in: 160, Pushkin Str., Rostov-on-Don, held a round table talk “Language is a Spiritual Code of the Nation. Reflection of Homeland Traditions in the Don Dialects”. It was organized by the Rostov regional public organization “Centre for Assistance to Civil Society Development and Public Diplomacy” under the support of the Institute of Journalistic Philology and Intercultural Communication, and the Institute of Sociology and Regional Studies of the South Federal University, the Rostov regional department of the all-Russian public organization “Union of Journalists of Russia”, the Rostov State University of Economics and the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The event was held within the framework of realization of the project “Language is a Spiritual Code of the Nation” of the Fund of the Presidential Grants 2017-1.

The round table was joined by the Rostov university scholars, Don journalists, representatives of the Russian Union of Writers.

The meeting began with reading of the welcoming address from A.M.Sholokhov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Cultural Committee. It stressed the importance of the study in the language heritage as an integral part of the Don culture.

A special interest and heated discussion was aroused by the talk of I.A.Kudryashov about the role of dialectisms in modern language practice.

The representatives of the department of Russian Language for Foreign Students of the South Federal University shared their experience in teaching Russian in polyethnic environment.

The professors V.V.Kikhtan (the University of Economics), A.V.Serikov and A.V.Bedrik (the South Federal University) spoke about the necessary restrictions in the use of dialectisms in the intercultural communication.

O.A.Aksyonova (the Union of Journalists of Russia), and T.O.Osipova (the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve) spoke about the importance of the study in the language and culture interaction for the Don region.

In conclusion, the project leader A.I.Pyatakova expressed her hope for the further cooperation of scientific and creative groups in realization of the project “Language is a Spiritual Code of the Nation”.
