Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov Joined the Scientific and Practical Conference in Tyumen

30.10.2017

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov joined the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with the international participation “Cossacks of Siberia from Yermak to the Present: History, Language and Culture”, which took place in the Tyumen State University on October 27, 2017.

The conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution of 1917 was joined by the representatives of 15 regions of Russia – scholars, archive and museum workers, teachers, members of the Cossack community, clergy, State and municipal authorities. Nearly 40 talks and pieces of information were prepared about participation of Cossacks in the Revolution of 1917, and the revival of Cossacks at the present. The issue of Cossack revival in Russia is also interesting for the foreign scholars. Thus the conference was given a talk of Chzhan Syaolin, a teacher of the Shanghai Political and Juridical University.

V.V.Sholokhova, Deputy Director for Development of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, made a talk and presentation “The National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve is a Keeper of Cossack Culture”, which aroused great interest among the conference participants and journalists present. She told about the work carried out by the Museum for preserving the customs and traditional way of life of the Don Cossacks: tours, workshops and literary ethnographical holidays “Kruzhilin Toloki”,”Steed is the dearest for Cossack” (Cossack battle art of Vyoshenskaya), “Karghin Fair on Intercession Days”. “The Cossacks is a very attractive element for the foreign tourists to come to our country. The foreigners are attracted by such Cossack regions as the Rostov Region, the Krasnodar Area, and others; and in Siberia this destination should also be developed. I think the theme of Cossacks is so bright and unique, and it like a tourist beacon will entice foreign tourists. We shall tell them about our history. We are proud of our Cossacks. After all, it's not in vain that Leo Tolstoy wrote that “the whole history of Russia was written by Cossacks”, – said V.V.Sholokhova.

As well, the conference was given a talk by L.A.Akolzina and V.G.Yemelyanov “Revival of the Don Cossacks. M.A.Sholokhov and his Descendants”. The great writer M.A.Sholokhov made great efforts to preserve the authentic Cossack culture. He took part in creating the Cossack chorus and Cossack theatre in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, helped to create a historical and architectural ensemble in Stanitsa Starocherkasskaya, a former Don Cossack

capital, to preserve the great heritage of the Don country. His work was worthily continued by his descendants. The writer’s younger son M.M.Sholokhov was elected the first ataman of the Union of Cossacks of the Don Army (Voisko Donskoye) Region during the beginning of the Don Cossack revival. His grandson, A.M.Sholokhov, as director of the Museum-Reserve during 2001–2016, did a lot to make the Museum a centre of preservation and revival of the moral and spiritual traditions of Cossacks.

The result of the conference was a book of research papers of the conference participants and a talk “The Work of M.A.Sholokhov as Percepted by Emigrant Cossacks” made by L.P.Razogreyeva, General Researcher of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.
