Exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” is Opened in India

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov for the first time has presented its exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” in India. It runs during October 18–26, 2017, in the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi.

The exhibition is organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo Agency in India under the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition opening ceremony was joined by N.R.Kudashev, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, O.A.Anistratenko, Director, and V.V.Sholokhova, Deputy Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, A.Sadjankhar, an Indian diplomat, public figure and the leader of the Institute of Global Research, N.Suryanarayan, Head of the Department of Slavic and Finno-Ugric Languages of the Delhi University, writers, literary scholars, teachers, professors of the Delhi universities, Russian philology students, journalists, members of the public and Russian compatriots.

The opening ceremony began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp. O.A.Anistratenko, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, thanked the hosts for the warmth and hospitality, and noted that M.A.Sholokhov is well-known in India. She said: “We are very glad to have such an opportunity to tell about the great Russian writer, who confirmed his love for his native land and his people with all his life.

Greeting the audience N.R.Kudashev, a Russian ambassador in India, underlined that the exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” had become the great event for development of relations between the two countries in the sphere of culture and noted a lot of interest of the local public: “The values M.A.Sholokhov sounded in his works – the advantage of a peaceful and quiet work, patriotism, nonviolence and faith – are also in great demand in the land of India.

N.Suryanarayan, a Russian teacher of the Delhi University, told about the great popularity of the story “The Fate of a Man” among the people of India, who read Russian literature: “This is a small, but very touching and beautiful work. It is a universal work about war and humaneness.”

The exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” displays photos of the writer himself, illustrations to his works, historical photographs, Cossack houseware and drawings telling about the Don Cossacks.
