Sholokhov Museum Invites to the Magic World of Cinematograph

05.10.2017

The guests of the literary ethnographical holiday “Karghin Fair on Intercession Days”, which will take place on October 8, 2017, will be able to visit an old Cossack cinematograph and see unique fragments of the world cinema.

The first Upper Don cinematograph “Ideal” had become famous already before the First World War. It attracted near and far grain carriers to the mill of the enterprising Cossack Timofey Karghin. The white screen remembers the pictures of the ”great silent”, and the walls of the “Ideal” heard the voice of young Mikhail Sholokhov, when he acted on the stage in his own plays.

The interactive exhibition “Magic World of Cinematograph” of the Museum-Reserve will tell the visitors about the history of the first cinema in the Upper Don region and show unique exhibits telling about filming Sholokhov’s works, and then will give an opportunity to get into the world of cinema.

The exhibition displays film projectors of different times, photos from the filming sites, posters. The viewers will see fragments of screen versions of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov of 1930, 1957 and 2015, a filming chronicle of the latest version of the great novel by the film-director S.Ursulyak in Stanitsa Yelanskaya, and the films of the “golden fund” of the national silent cinema including “Revelry of Stienka Razin on the Volga” (1908), “Defence of Sebastopol” (1911) and a unique cartoon film “Revenge of the Cinematographic Operator” (1912).

A separate page of the film show is devoted to the bright pages from the history of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. As well, the program includes a cartoon film show for little visitors of the “Ideal”.

You are welcome to the exhibition “Magic World of Cinematograph”!
