The seminar members were greeted by Yekaterina Alexandrovna Tolstaya, who said that the seminar of translators of the works by L.N.Tolstoy and other classics of Russian literature is one of the most important events in the work of the Museum-Estate of L.N.Tolstoy “Yasnaya Polyana”.

During the seminar the speakers discussed the problems of significance of the translation for perpetuating the memory of the writer, the need to protect and control the translations, creating a single list of translators of Russian literature classics, preservation the unique style of the writer when translating into foreign languages. L.M.Slyusarenko, a senior researcher of the department “Estate of M.A.Sholokhov”, gave a talk “The Translators of the Works by M.A.Sholokhov in Scandinavian Countries in the 1930–1960s” informing about communication of M.A.Sholokhov with the translators of his works in Scandinavian countries, features of translation and about the unpublished letters from the writer’s personal archives.

The most interesting addition to the seminar program was a show of documentaries “Way Station” and “Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi. A Double Portrait in the Interior of the Era” made by the film director Galina Yevtushenko about the life and literary heritage of L.N.Tolstoy.
