The Sea in Rostov

On June 30, an opening ceremony of the exhibition “Travelling around the World” from the museum of the World Ocean (Kaliningrad) took place in Sholokhov-Centre of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

At the opening ceremony, O.A.Anistratenko, Director of the National Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, thanked the colleagues from Kaliningrad for the wonderful opportunity to visit the unique museum such as the Museum of the World Ocean. She noted “a summer mood” of the exhibition which will enable the residents of Rostov-on-Don to get to the seaside without leaving the city.

I.V.Grunsky, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Rostov Region, thanked the guests from the Museum of the World Ocean for the long-term cooperation with the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov and with many other museums of the Rostov Region. He underlined that only such people, who sincerely love their business, can devote themselves to their profession.

All the guests of the exhibition set out on their first “round-the-world voyage”. While travelling they met with unknown residents of distant islands, strange animals, and learned about the ship arrangement and use of navigation devices. Besides, they could see a model of the sailing ship “Kruzenstern”, a royal penguin and piranha fish, shark teeth and a saw-fish nose, different geological samples from the ocean floor, seashell ornaments of the aborigines of the Polynesia Islands and wonderful amber works of arts and crafts.

The first visitors of the exhibition made their round-the-world voyages accompanied by rousing drum rhythms of a real pirate and they could play different drums themselves.

There is no person in the world who would not desire to make a round-the-world voyage, to set out to the unexplored islands of the boundless Ocean. Any inquisitive person dreams of seeing the wonderful wildlife of the distant tropic islands, getting acquainted with the residents of the unknown countries, learning new things and discovering for himself the vast World! The Museum of the World Ocean provides a chance for you to feel yourself such a voyager, naturalist and circumnavigator.

The exhibition will work in Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov (Rostov-on-Don, 125/69 Bolshaya Sadovaya) from June 30, to September 3, 2017.
