NewsSholokhov Museum at the II Regional Festival of the Don Museums05.06.2017The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov took part in the II regional festival of the Don museums “This Exciting World of Nature” which took place on June 2, in Volgodonsk, and was dedicated to the Year of Ecology in Russia and to the 100th anniversary of the Great Russian Revolution. The main purpose of the festival having no analogues in other regions is to show diversity and the widest range of destinations of the museum activity in the Rostov Region. In the Year of Ecology, environmental education and attraction of the public to the problems of environmental preservation become one of the main subjects. The festival was opened by I.Grunsky, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Rostov Region. He stressed that the revival of museum culture is paid great attention in the Rostov Region: the museum collections are actively replenished, educational programs are being developed, new forms of the work are introduced. This results in increasing attendance of the museums, in growing interest for cultural values in the younger generation. The guests were greeted by I.Pavlinok, Director of the Volgodonsk Ecological and Historical Museum – the host of the festival. The three halls displayed travelling exhibitions of the museums including the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, the only federal museum in the Rostov Region, and the regional museums – the Azov Archaeological and Paleontological Museum-Reserve, the Novocherkassk Museum of the Don Cossack History, the Starocherkassk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, the Archaeological Museum-Reserve “Tanais”, the Razdory Ethnographical Museum-Reserve, the Museum of Russian and Armenian Friendship (as a department of the Rostov Regional Museum of Local History), and a number of municipal local history museums. Each delegation prepared an interesting program for the forum guests and during the whole day the halls were overcrowded. The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov made a presentation of new forms of the work in environmental education, an exhibition of books on environment and gave interesting master-classes. The visitors learned about the structures and exhibitions of the Museum, about literary folklore and ethnographical holidays taking place in the homeland of the great writer, natural sights of Sholokhov country. The festival became an area for demonstrating achievements, exchange of experience and brightly impressed the museum workers and guests.
