Foreign Students in the Don Country

19.05.2017

On May 16–18, the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve was visited by a group of students of the Department of the Russian Language for Foreign Students of the Institute of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication of the South Federal University. The Department is a part of the Centre of the International Education of the International Cooperation Board.

The Department of the Russian Language for Foreign Students is specialized in teaching the Russian language as foreign, and the lecturers have accumulated a lot of experience working with students and postgraduates from different countries.

The senior lecturers N.M.Ustimenko and O.P.Sotnikova brought students to Vyoshenskaya not for the first time. The program of their visit is always diverse and informative. The students from Iraq, Armenia, Mongolia, Syria, Brazil, Palestine, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Yemen, Afghanistan, Colombia and Korea visited the historical and literary exhibition “M.A.Sholokhov.The Time and Destiny” and the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. During the sightseeing tour they learned about the history and architecture of the stanitsa.

The foreign guests were greatly impressed by visiting the Museum Stables. They listened to the excursion, had a pleasure ride in a horse-drawn carriage and could feel themselves real Cossack men and women having dressed in traditional outfit.

They enjoyed a lot meeting with the folklore group “Donskoye Siyaniye” (The Don Radiance) directed by A.V.Chudin.

On the final day the students visited the homeland of the writer in Kruzhilin Village. It was very interesting for them to learn about the childhood of M.A.Sholokhov, about the traditional lifestyle of the Don Cossacks in the XIX–XX centuries. In conclusion they had a tasty and hearty dinner in the Cossack farmstead.

Leaving Vyoshenskaya the young people took with them lots of bright impressions, pictures and souvenirs. They expressed their hope of returning here again.
