Sholokhov Museum Showed Its Progress in Preservation of Cossack Traditions in Estonia

16.05.2017

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov took part in the XVIII Congress of the International Association of Agricultural Museums “Traditions and Changes is a Substantial Future” which took place on May 10–13, 2017, in Tartu, Estonia.

The forum united over a hundred people – museum representatives, researchers and practitioners aimed at preservation of agricultural traditions, from 23 countries.

The congress was aimed at promotion of agriculture in the society by means of knowledge of history, unification of the successful world practices of the revival of rural life traditions and ensuring a substantial future in today’s challenging conditions, when the museums are to preserve the priceless past on the one hand, and on the other – to keep up with the ever-changing present and remain in demand among the youth.

The busy conference schedule included a plenary session, thematic workshops and master-classes, visiting museums and the scientific centre of Tartu and exchange of experience and views.

N.Trofimenko, a leading specialist for international operations of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, made a presentation “Preservation of Cossack Traditions in the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve”. She told about the traditions of land use and construction in the Don area, Cossack crafts and customs demonstrated by the Museum in the tours, master-classes and holidays. The specialists of different countries highly appreciated the work of the Museum aimed at preservation of Cossack culture, the ways of displaying it to the visitors, and the range, significance and richness of the events taking place in the Museum.
