NewsSiberian Cadets in Sholokhov Museum04.05.2017On May 1, 2017, the homeland of the Nobel Prize winner in literature Mikhail Sholokhov was visited by a group of students of the Cadet Cossack Class of the Tazovsky District, the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Territory. The children covered over 3000 km to see Sholokhov country and learn about the Don Cossack traditions. The excursion and educational tour “Children Cossack Camp” organized by the Museum-Reserve began with the visit to the writer’s homeland – Kruzhilin Village. Here the tourists saw the house, where Mikhail Sholokhov was born, they learned about his childhood and parents. They had an excursion about the Cossack farmstead, a living illustration to the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”, and learned about the lifestyle of the Upper Don Cossacks. In Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, the tourists visited the central Museum-Reserve structure – the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov, exhibitions “The Peoples of the Crimea” and “I Can’t Live without Nature…” in the exhibition centre “People’s House”, took part in master-classes and museum classes. They planted trees in the forest park area of the environmental movement “Sholokhov Source”. Very interesting was the excursion about the Museum Stables, where the Yamal-Nenets cadets learned how young Cossacks were trained for the military service, saw the elements of fancy riding, flanking and some techniques the Cossacks used in Battles and had a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. The group visited Stanitsa Karghinskaya, where M.A.Sholokhov began his writing career, visited the memorial house, the parochial school, the farmstead of T.A.Karghin, where there is the mill displayed in the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” and a cinematograph “Ideal”. The young guests from the Yamal peninsula have a few days of informative program in store: new excursions about the exhibitions telling about the life and work of M.A.Sholokhov, master-classes and interactive activities, learning about filming of Sholokhov’s works, and the main thing – participation in the literary ethnographic holiday “Steed is the Dearest for Cossack” (Cossack battle art of Vyoshenskaya), where the Siberian cadets will take part in the Cossack pentathlon and compete with the Don boys.
