Museum of Cossack Culture and Lifestyle “The Quiet Don” is Open

28.04.2017

Ethnographical Museum of Cossack Culture and Lifestyle “The Quiet Don” is opened on April 21, 2017, in Starozolotovsky Village the Konstantinovsky District of the Rostov Region. The exhibition is based on the scenery and props of the serial film made by the film director Sergei Ursulyak. The idea of this private museum belongs to the film co-producer Ali Uzdenov, a public figure.

During the filming process S.Ursulyak applied to the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov with a request to provide with historical information and consultations to convey reliably the lifestyle of the Upper Don Cossacks. Based on the information received there was built “Tatarsky Village” with huts and outbuildings at the filming ground near Stanitsa Yelanskaya. The success of the film was contributed by the talented performance of the actors and authentic surrounding household ware that enabled the actors to get into the atmosphere of the time displayed in the novel and to understand the personages and get into their roles.

On the initiative of Ali Uzdenov, after the filming was over, the scenery of the film was moved to the Konstantinovsky District, where the farmsteads of the Melekhovs, the Astakhovs and the Korshunovs were reconstructed. By that time Ali Uzdenov had got a collection of household items of the Upper and Lower Don Cossacks, and the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov helped to create the exhibitions. As well, the new museum was presented with lilac seedlings of “Mikhail Sholokhov” species from the writer’s Estate in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya and with pear species from the old orchard of the Sholokhovs’ House in Stanitsa Karghinskaya.

The opening ceremony of the ethnographical museum in Starozolotovsky Village was attended by the film-director Sergei Ursulyak and the starring performers: Yevgeny Tkachuk (Grigory Melekhov), Polina Chernyshova (Aksinya Astakhova), Artur Ivanov (Pyotr Melekhov), Anastasiya Vedenskaya (Darya Melekhova).

The founder of the museum Ali Uzdenov was presented with a greeting address of A.M.Sholokhov, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian federation.
