Turgenev will be Told about in Sholokhov-Centre

An opening ceremony of the exhibition “Poetry is not Only in Verses…” took place on April 14, in Sholokhov Centre of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve (Rostov-on-Don). The exhibition will tell the residents and guests of the city about the life and work of Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev.

This is a joint project of the State Memorial and Natural I.S.Turgenev Museum-Reserve “Spasskoye-Lutovinovo” and the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The exhibition was opened by the directors of the museums-partners E.N.Levina and O.A.Anistratenko. A guest of honour A.A.Rezvanov, the Rostov Region Ministry of Culture, wished a success to the new project “Theatre in the Museum” which was presented in Sholokhov-Centre by the actors of the theatre “Klassika”.

Spasskoye-Lutovinovo, an estate of I.S.Turgenev, is a unique monument of culture, the only memorial museum of the great Russian writer in Russia. This place was of particular importance for Ivan Turgenev, it was his ancestral nest, where he spent his childhood and where he came regularly for his holidays and vacations. The author often used his memories about these places in his prose. Here he wrote his novels “The Noble’s Nest”, “The Day Before”, “Fathers and Sons”, “Rudin”, a story “Hostelry”, an essay “On the Nightingales”. Here Turgenev was visited by Mikhail Shchepkin, Ivan Aksakov, Afanasy Fet, Nikolay Nekrasov, Leo Tolstoy.

The visitors of the exhibition will learn about the life and creative work of the famous writer, who was a famous hunter as well. One of the exhibition sections is devoted to his favourite hobby. The exhibition shows a unique collection of engravings, lithographs, drawings, works of arts and crafts, illustrations to the novels and stories of I.S.Turgenev.

The exhibition “Poetry is not Only in Verses…” will run until June 18, 2017, in Sholokhov-Centre in: 125/69, Sadovaya Str., Rostov-on-Don.

The exhibition halls are open from 10.00 to 17.00 (Wednesday, from 10.00 to 19.00), Monday is a day-off.
