Contest “Our Sholokhov”

13.04.2017

The final stage of the contest “Our Sholokhov” dedicated to the Year of Ecology in Russia was held in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya on April 11, 2017. The contest, which is participated by schoolchildren, who know and love the work of the great writer, has rich traditions and had been held for 29 times already.

On that day, schoolchildren, their teachers and parents came to the homeland of M.A.Sholokhov from 5 northern districts of the Rostov Region. The children and adults got interested in seeing the exhibited works of the winners in the nominations “Fine Arts” and “Arts and Crafts”: 50 best drawings and handicraft articles were displayed in the hall of the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House”. In all, over 400 schoolchildren from the Verkhnedonskoy, Bokovsky, Kashary, Oblivsky and Sholokhov districts took part in the event.

The keenest competition was in the nomination “Artistic Reading”. It was very difficult for the jury consisting of the Museum workers, M.A.Sholokhov college teachers and representatives of the education department of the Sholokhov District Administration to select the best from the best. The judges noted high skills of little and elder children. The contestants could significantly and sincerely convey the feelings of Sholokhov’s heroes and comprehend the strong connection between the contemporary teenagers and their coevals, who lived in the Don country almost 100 years ago.

The contest day in the nomination “Research Works” was also very interesting. The children spoke about the writer’s attitude to nature, his remarkable knowledge of the steppe flora and fauna, his hobby of hunting and fishing, the speeches of Sholokhov the Deputy about protection of a frail ecosystem of Lake Baikal and the role of preservation and augmentation of forests in our region.

The contest resulted in 14 winners aged 13-17 in the four nominations. They were awarded an excursion tour to Rostov-on-Don, which is going to be in April. The rest of the laureates were presented the tickets for free attending the structures of the Museum-Reserve.
