Christ’s Resurrection is a Holiday for Everyone

14.04.2017

From April 17, the excursion and exhibition centre People’s House of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov will be giving theatrical classes “Bright Resurrection of Christ is a Holiday for Everyone!”

The great holiday of Easter is celebrated annually by millions of people all over the world. It is the main Christian holiday caused by the salvific suffering and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A lot of folk rites, traditions and omens are connected with this day.

The holiday of Easter, a Bright Christ’s Resurrection was the happiest holiday for Cossacks. Easter ended the great fast ordering to avoid eating fat, having fun and entertainment in any form: weddings, songs, and began nationwide festivities. Adults received guests or made visits, exchanged bright and beautiful painted eggs, tasty Easter cakes, regaled everyone with traditional Easter dishes and sang songs. On the holiday, Cossack women took an opportunity of showing their dresses in the spring sun.

Young people enjoyed themselves playing games, picking tulips in the steppe or boating on the Don.

Easter week ended with Sunday called Krasnaya Gorka (Red Hill). This day was good for weddings and commemoration. Children would roll painted eggs from the slides and made egg competitions.

After Easter week Cossacks took oxen, horses, agricultural machines and tools and went to the summer fields to plough, harrow the earth and sow grains.

In classes of the People’s House the children learn about Easter, how it was celebrated in the Upper Don region, about the tradition of painting hen’s eggs. The children will enjoy games and competitions, a master-class on making an Easter symbol and will do many other interesting things.

You can be registered on the phone 23-1-00 or 23-7-00.
