Sholokhov Museum Shows Its Exhibition in the Chechen Republic

On April 6, 2017, the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov presents its exhibition “The Don.Sholokhov.Russia” in the National Museum of the Chechen Republic in Grozny. This is the first run of the exhibition in the Northern Caucasus.

The National Museum of the Chechen Republic is a member of the great exhibition project “Here I was Happy…”, which had a successful run in 2016, in Sholokhov-Centre. The guests from the Chechen Republic visited Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, saw the beauty of the Don country and displayed a great interest in the life and work of M.A.Sholokhov and in the history of the Don Cossacks.

The exhibition of Sholokhov Museum will show in Grozny personal belongings of the writer, documents and photo materials telling about the childhood and youth of the future Nobel Prize winner, about his study in the parochial school and gymnasium, about the early years of his writing career, his work over the famous novels, public activity and meetings with the well-known people.

One of the exhibit sections tells about the hero of Sholokhov’s works – the Don Cossacks. The residents and guests of the Chechen capital will learn about the original way of life of the Upper Don Cossacks in the late XIX – early XX centuries, Cossack traditions and culture, will see clothes of Cossack men and women, outfit and equipment that were necessary for the Cossack joining the military service, household items and tools typical for that time, they will hear old folk Cossack songs.

Earlier the exhibition had a successful run in different parts of Russia – in Kaliningrad, Salekhard and Khanty-Mansiysk. In the National Museum of the Chechen Republic the exhibition will run from April 6, to June 12, 2017.
