“Forty Forties of Birds Come to Soroki”

21.03.2017

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov invites you to the theatrical classes devoted to the folk holiday of “Soroki” which is marked on March 22, the Day of Spring Equinox.

The holiday traditions and rites are associated with migratory birds coming back from the south. Larks are especially revered, as they bring spring on their wings. For the warm days to come sooner the housewives baked a treat, which was called “zhavoronki” (larks) and gave it to each member of the family. With the baked birds in their hands the children ran onto the hill and “called spring”– sang spring songs and danced circle dances.

Visiting the theatrical classes you will take part in the holiday with merry games, will learn spring welcoming rhymes and taste the baked “zhavoronki”.

You are welcome to the excursion and exhibition centre People’s House from 21 to 31 of March.

Pre-registration for the classes is by phone: 23-100.
