The Results of the Jubilee International Contest of Young Ecologists

The National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve summed up the X International Contest (by correspondence) of research works of the children and youth environmental movement “Sholokhov Source” on the theme “The Environment Around Us”. This contest is dedicated to the Year of Ecology in Russia.

This year, 126, a record number, children’s works were submitted to the jury: from five regions of Russia, from the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova and Abkhazia. The Contest organizers noted a growing interest for the Contest, which was manifested in the participant geography expansion and in increase in the number and quality of the works received. In their research works the children reflected the biodiversity of their home country, of the cherished natural areas of the RF, environmental initiatives of the Russian classics L.N.Tolstoy, A.P.Chekhov, M.A.Sholokhov and others, and offered their solutions to environmental problems.

Unfortunately, not all the contestants could compete for prizes due to non-compliance with the deadlines for submission (2 works), disparity in age group under Regulation (4 papers of the 3d , 4th and 5th form students), a significant excess of the text volume (9 works), the use of incorrect borrowing of materials from the Internet (15 works).

But the overwhelming majority of the works are characterized by the structural clarity, consistency and validity of the conclusions. And for the first time, after a detailed study of the best works in the section “The Experience of the Students’ Environmental Studies”, the jury decided to introduce additional nominations.

The jury determined the winners of the contest. The awarding ceremony will take place on April 26, 2017, during the First Round of the XVIII Rally of the movement “Sholokhov Source”.

The Organizing Committee thanks all the children for active participation in the contest. And special thanks are given to the leaders and teachers of the winners. All they will be awarded Letters of Thanks of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.
