In Honour of Rostov-on-Don Liberation

14.02.2017

In the literary and musical salon of Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov on February 13, 2017, there was held a meeting dedicated to the memorial date of the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Rostov-on-Don from the German fascist invaders.

The meeting symbolically named “At the Crossroads of Destinies: War.City.People” was visited by grey-haired veterans, schoolchildren and students of Rostov-on-Don. The war left terrible wounds in every family, and for all generations of Rostovites the Day of Liberation of their favourite city is the great day.

The guests learned about the unique architecture of the city, the history of the monuments and unique buildings destroyed during the Great Patriotic War from the talks given by the teachers of the Academy of Architecture and Art of the South Federal University: Sergei Alexeyev, professor, advisor of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (the talk theme: “The History of the Rostov-on-Don Architectural Monuments Destroyed During the Great Patriotic War”), Irina Moskalenko (the talk theme: “Evolution of the Architectural Image of Rostov-on-Don”) and a 2-year student Veronika Dronova (the talk theme: “Postwar Building Reconstruction of the Historic City Centre of Rostov-on-Don on the Example of the Profitable House of Ghench-Ogluyev”).

The guests heard the songs devoted to the Great Patriotic War and the feat of the Soviet soldiers, who defended our Motherland, performed by the students of the Rostov College of Arts and the Water Transport Institute.
