“At the Crossroads of Destinies: War.City.People”

10.02.2017

A music literary salon meeting “At the Crossroads of Destinies: War.City. People” dedicated to the 74th anniversary of liberation of Rostov-on-Don from the German fascist invaders will take place in Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov in Rostov-on-Don on 13 February, 2017.

The liberation of Rostov from the fascist occupation began on the 8 and completed on the 14 of February, 1943. During the first hours after the liberation, in each lane there was a meeting, in each street there was a holiday. A terrible scene of devastation and destruction was opened to the rostovites and those who came to help them. There were only 6 miraculously survived enterprises from 274. Every two of three houses were in ruins. The plant “Rostselmash”, almost all the major plants, schools and hospitals, theatres and libraries, institutes and clubs were destroyed, no bridge had survived including the railway bridge across the River Don. And truly a barbaric crime was the explosion of the grand building of the Rostov M.Gorky Theatre which had entered the textbooks of the world architecture.

The city being created over a lifetime of many generations had to be revived and reconstructed anew. And the people brought Rostov back to life. We honour the heroism of the soldiers and construction workers.

The members of the meeting will remember the history of the city singed by the war and the monuments of architecture destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. The students of the Rostov State S.V.Rakhmaninov Conservatory will perform the songs of the war years.

We welcome the residents and guests of Rostov-on-Don on February 13, at 13:30, at Sholokhov-Centre of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve in: 125/69, Bolshaya Sadovaya, Rostov-on-Don.
