The III International School Essay Contest on the Works of M.A.Sholokhov

The Department of Russian Literature of the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences and the Moscow City Pedagogical University jointly with the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and the national scientific and educational journal “Mir Sholokhova” announce the start of the III International School Essay Contest on the works of M.A.Sholokhov.

 

The timing of the contest: January 30 – February 28, 2017.

 

The contest is aimed at attracting secondary school pupils to creative assimilation of the artistic richness of Russian literary classics and the works of M.A.Sholokhov, one of its outstanding representatives.

 

The Requirements for the Works:

 

- compliance with one of the proposed topics;

- text originality, the absence of incorrect borrowing of the materials placed on the Internet and other sources;

- textual reference to the works by M.A.Sholokhov both included into the school programs and outside them;

- clarity of the structure, consistency and validity of the conclusions;

- disclosure of the style and content resources, and educational potential of Sholokhov’s works of fiction in specific provisions of the work;

- approximate amount: 3–4 exercise-book pages (1.5–2 pages of A4 format sheets).

 

The Essay Topics:

 

  1. The problem of faith in the works of M.A.Sholokhov. 
  2. What figurative and expressive techniques do you think M.A.Sholokhov uses in his works with exceptional skills? 
  3. Which of the film adaptations of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov do you think most accurately reflects the product of the text and the intent of its author? 
  4. Is the voice of Sholokhov as publicist heard today? 
  5. My Sholokhov.

 

 

The best works will be marked with diplomas, and the essay texts of the contest winners will be published in the journal “Mir Sholokhova” (The World of Sholokhov).

 

The jury includes: Y.A.Dvoryashin (chairman), Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor, Honoured Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, editor-in-chief of the journal “Mir Sholokhova” (The World of Sholokhov); A.I.Smirnova (co-chairman), Doctor of Philological Sciences, Head of Russian Literature Department of the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences of the Moscow Pedagogical University; L.P.Razogreyeva, General Researcher of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve; S.A.Vasilyev, Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor of Russian Literature Department of the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences of the Moscow Pedagogical University; T.O.Osipova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, a docent of Russian Literature Department of the South Federal University (Rostov-on-Don); and M.A.Stepanova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, senior researcher of the Moscow State Museum of S.A.Yesenin.

 

The essays either as scanned or photographed exercise-book pages, or as Word processor typed ones are to be sent by e-mail: mirSholokhova@yandex.ru with obligatory indication of the complete surname, name and patronymic of the author, the complete surname, name and patronymic of the teacher, who assisted (if he did) in writing the work, the current official name of the school and form, the contact e-mail and telephone number. The works will not be reviewed.

 

The works are accepted for the contest from January 30, until February 28, 2017.
