News“Titmouse Day” in Sholokhov Gymnasium18.11.2016On November 17, the workers of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov within the project “Environmental Museum School” held a class “Titmouse Day” for the students of Sholokhov Gymnasium. The holiday of Titmouse Day was added into the environmental calendar on the initiative of the Russian Bird Conservation Union (which is marked on November 12). By the folk calendar this day is marked as Day of Remembrance of the Orthodox St. Zinovy Sinichnik, a patron of wintering birds. Namely by this time, in anticipation of colds, titmice fly from forests to come closer to human habitation and ask for additional feeding. During the class, the children remembered the names of the Upper Don wintering bird species, signs associated with Titmouse Day, then they tried to identify the voices of birds in record. During the work it was clear that the children know the local birds very well. In groups, the young ecologists made bird feeders, put feed in them and hung the feeders in the school park opposite their classroom windows. In the coming winter, the children will be able to feed the wintering birds, watch them and keep records of their species and number. Svetlana Pyatikova |
