14.11.2016

An exhibition “Sholokhov’s Personages in Cinema” runs in the Farmstead of T.A.Karghin of the Karghin Memorial Historical Complex. It is housed in the hall of the “Cinematograph “Ideal” built early in the XX century.

There were made screen versions based on the works by M.A.Sholokhov. Each of them left its mark in the history of cinema and in the hearts of the spectators. Many of the films entered into the “Golden Fund” of Russian cinema, they are known, seen and loved.

The exhibits tell about filming the novels by M.A.Sholokhov “And Quiet Flows the Don”, “Virgin Soil Upturned”, about the films based on the writer’s early works. As well, there are histories of the films based on Sholokhov’s books about the Great Patriotic War.

In the section telling about the first filming of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” in 1930, the visitors will see a unique exhibit, a film projector “Magic Lantern” made by Ernemann Company (Germany) in 1910.

Another interesting exhibit is a film projector from the Palace of Culture of Vyoshenskaya, where in 1975 a premiere of the film “They Fought for Their Country” took place. M.A.Sholokhov was present at the event. The film made by the film director S.Bondarchuk was recognized to be “The Best Film of the Year” and was nominated for the main award of the Cannes Film Festival “Golden Palm”. It gained a number of awards of the international film festivals.

A cinema poster stand, benches near the house of culture, a queue to the box-office and the box-office itself take to the atmosphere of the past years. In the stylized cinema house with a film projector and rows of chairs for spectators one can see on the white screen the fragments of feature films and documentaries serving s kind of a guide in the history of Russian cinema and give an opportunity to feel the mood of the spectators of different times.

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov welcomes to the exhibition “Sholokhov’s Personages in Cinema”, which will run in Stanitsa Karghinskaya until January 20, 2017.
