“Literary Salon” in Sholokhov-Centre

11.10.2016

On October 7, Sholokhov-Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov for the second time received the members of the “Literary Salon” of the Social Service Centre for the Population of the Pervomaisky District of Rostov-on-Don. At this time the literary circle was joined by the members of the Kirov District Veteran Council.

The meeting began with attending the exhibition “I was Happy Here…” devoted to the life and work of the great Russian poet M.Y.Lermontov. Then the guests went to the multimedia hall, where the talk about poetry was joined by the employees of the Don State Public Library. G.V.Kopaneva, head of the reading room, and N.V.Kovalenko, head of the delivery desk, aroused interest in the audience by the talk “Lermontov and Rostov-on-Don” telling about the establishment of Lermontov Street, of the poet’s bust monument and about the work of Lermontov as reflected in the art, particularly, in cinema and music. The members of the meeting enjoyed listening to the romance “I Go out Alone on the Road” composed by Yelizaveta Shashina for the poems by Mikhail Lermontov in 1861.

During the meeting the librarians demonstrated book trailers based on the poet’s books and made a presentation of the restored “Fashionable Ladies’ Album” which was an integral attribute of any well-bred girl of Lermontov’s time.

The warm and friendly atmosphere imbued with poetry left nobody indifferent. The talks continued over a cup of fragrant tea, and now, the participants of the “Literary Salon” themselves recited poems by M.Y.Lermontov and their own poetry.
