NewsExhibition “Word and Fame of Russia” is Opened in the Crimea08.08.2016The Crimean Ethnographical Museum opened the exhibition “Word and Fame of Russia” presented by the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. Arina Novoselskaya, Minister of Culture of the Republic of the Crimea, greeting the guests of the exhibition opening ceremony noted that the exhibition from the collections of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov is shown in the Crimea for the first time giving the residents and guests of the peninsula a unique opportunity to learn more about the life and work of Mikhail Sholokhov and the historical path of the Don Cossacks. The director of the Crimean Ethnographical Museum, Yury Laptev, told about the prospects of cooperation with the museums of the Rostov Region. He thanked the workers of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov for the informative exhibition and the opportunity to see the beauty of the Don country. The head of the Scientific Exhibition Department of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, Yelena Tolstopyatenko, thanked the Ministry of Culture of the Crimean Republic and the republican museum for the assistance in opening the exhibition and warm reception, and told about the importance of the creative work of M.A.Sholokhov in the world literature about the history of the Museum-Reserve and the stages of its development. The exhibition “Word and Fame of Russia” tells about the Don Cossacks, the hero of the works of M.A.Sholokhov. His great talent, deep knowledge of people’s life, his humanist position allowed the writer to say a new word in literature, opened to the readers a bright and passionate world of Cossacks and brought fame to Russia. The documents, photographs, books, memoria open to the visitors the pages of life and work of M.A.Sholokhov, which are inseparably connected with the history of Russia and its people. The history, culture and traditions of Cossacks are shown in many aspects: the visitors will learn about the life of the Don Cossacks late in the XIX and early in the XX centuries, will see how Cossack men and women dressed, what equipment was required for the Cossack joining military service, and household utensils and tools typical of that time. One of the exhibition sections shows the history of embodiment of Sholokhov’s works in the art. In particular, there are shown the costume sketches for the opera “The Quiet Don” of the Gorky Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after A.S.Pushkin of 1935, the materials telling about the latest screen version of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” (the film director S.V.Ursulyak) and the costumes of the film heroes presented to the Museum-Reserve by the film crew.
