NewsExhibition “Genius Loci”01.08.2016The Excursion and Exhibition Centre “People’s House” has opened a personal photo exhibition “Genius Loci” by Karp Pashinyan, the well-known Rostov photo artist. In his works the artist tried to show a connection of writers and poets with the place they lived in and to find the finest conformities between the landscapes of the places, architectural appearance, interiors of the estates and images of their literary creations. The exhibition displays artistic photographs of the unique places of Russia, where L.N.Tolstoy, I.S.Turgenev, A.P.Chekhov, M.Y.Lermontov, A.T.Bolotov grew up and became great creators. The visitors will see literary estates of Yasnaya Polyana, Spasskoye-Lutovinovo, Melikhovo, Tarkhany and Dvoryaninovo, as well as Polenovo, an estate of painter V.D.Polenov, and Ivanovka, an estate of the great composer S.V.Rakhmaninov. At the exhibition opening ceremony, Karp Pashinyan told how he created his works. The first black-and-white photographs were made by the author in 1986, in Melikhovo, the estate of A.P.Chekhov, the rest of them were made in summer and autumn of 2014. The epigraph of the exhibition is a quotation from the German poet Johann Goethe: “If you want to understand a poet, visit his homeland”. Karp Grigoryevich Pashinyan is Honoured Worker of Culture of the RF, a member of the Union of Journalists and of the Union of Designers of Russia. He works as consultant photographer at the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and as teacher of the Rostov art school named after M.B.Grekov. The photo works by K.G.Pashinyan are exhibited in the museums of history of photography (Shaulyai, Lithuania), of P.I.Chaikovsky (Klin, the Moscow Region), of musical and theatrical culture (Kislovodsk), of fine arts and of local history (Rostov-on-Don), in the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov (Vyoshenskaya), in private collections of Russia and foreign countries, and are published in the albums “Silver Horseshoe of the Don” (1999), “On the Edge of Meotida” (1999), “Don Heritage.From the Museum Collections of the Rostov Region” (2002), “Vyoshenskaya.Seasons of the Year.Winter” (2002), “Armenian Churches in the Don Area” (2003), “Sholokhov Age” (2005), “In Memory of Vyoshenskaya” (2011).
