Seventeen Moments of “Sholokhov Source”

On July 13–15, the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov held the II Round of the XVII Rally of the children and youth environmental movement “Sholokhov Source” joined by the teams from Kazakhstan, North Ossetia, from Boguchar, Nikolayevsk-on-Volga, the Rostov and Volgograd regions.

On the first day the rally members took part in a sport competition of kayakers on the River Don. In the evening they saw an open training of young Cossacks in fancy riding at the Stables of the Museum-Reserve.

Then the teams competed in the creative contests “A Visiting Card” and “The ABC of Taste” and showed their excellent results and creative and culinary skills. Using quotes from literary works, songs, poems, jokes and dances the children presented their dishes most typical in their locality to the jury and shared their recipes and cooking traditions.

On the next day the rally members went on the environmental expedition to the “Forest Cordon”, to the “Giant Oak” of Vyoshenskaya, they went by the “Path of Druids”, learned about the sand flora and felt a life-giving force of the Otrog Spring. Then the children toured about the memorial site of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov and took part in the literary quiz “Sholokhov Geography: from the Sources to the Nobel Triumph” and in a bike competition. The best ecologists of the teams showed their knowledge in the contest “Eco Erudite”.

In the afternoon there was held an opening ceremony of the tent camp in Lebyazhy Village, which goes on developing and turns into “Sholokhov Artek”. The members of the rally were greeted by S.G.Bashtura, Deputy Head of the Sholokhov District Administration for Agriculture and Environment, and T.Y.Turchin, Deputy Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov for Environment and Rational Land Use.

The day ended in a holiday concert “Seventeen Moments of the “Sholokhov Source”, which was held on the bank of the River Don. On the stage there were 27 flags of the Russian Federation subjects and 5 flags of the neighbouring countries, which representatives took part in different rallies of the movement.

The children tried to do their best showing their acting talent to promote their teams. The public enjoyed the performance.

In the evening there was a bright show of 17 boats of fire floating by the River Don to symbolize the years of life of “Sholokhov Source”, and a big holiday firework. The holiday night gathered the children by the fire of friendship to pull them together and find new friends.

The program of the next day was very rich as well. The teams competed in sports games and exercises, in environmental orienteering on the territory by the camp. While going through it the children were to reach seven setpoints, where they guessed environmental rebuses, did crossword puzzles, tests and carried out other assignments. The children showed their team spirit in overcoming obstacles and in their aspiration for completing the tasks very quickly and correctly.

According to the results, the best in the nomination “Environmental Expedition” was the team of the Orlov Cossack Cadet Corps; in the nomination “Literary Local History”– the team of gymnasium 45 of Vladikavkaz; in the nomination “Sport and Tourism – the team of the Memorial Museum of M.A.Sholokhov from the Kazakhstan Republic; in the nomination “Theatrics”– the team of secondary school 1 of Nikolayevsk-on-Volga.

The team of Sholokhov gymnasium (Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya) was awarded the Cup of Kindness named after Tatyana Yakovenko; the team of Kolundayevskaya school – the Cup of Sincerity named after Yevgeny Matytsyn; the team of Bukanovskaya school – the Cup of Optimism named after Yekaterina Novitskaya; the team of Boguchar orphanage school named after M.A.Sholokhov – the Cup of Friendship named after Bisen Zhumagaliyev.

The best and skillful members were granted titles and awards.

The champions of the II Round of the XVII Rally were: the team of Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia) was given the Cup of Winner and a Card of Admission to the international children festival named after Bisen Zhumagaliyev in the Kazakhstan Republic; the team of the Memorial Museum of M.A.Sholokhov (Daryinskoye, Kazakhstan) and the team of the Orlov Cossack Cadet Corps (the Rostov Region).

The main award for all “Sholokhov” or “Rally” people, as the members call themselves, was new meetings with old and new friends, talks and unforgettable impressions presented by the “Sholokhov Source”
