From “Sholokhov Source” to “Artek”

21.07.2016

Annually, beginning with 2006, the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve holds International extramural contest of research works of the children and youth environmental movement “Sholokhov Source”. The contestants are students of secondary educational schools, of supplementary educational institutions, members of children’s public associations of Russia and near foreign countries. During the 17 years the Movement has developed a rich scientific history: it held four scientific conferences and published four collections of scientific works “Sholokhov Geography: from the Sources to the Nobel Triumph”.

For long years students of school 1 of Nikolayevsk the Volgograd Region have been taking part in the extramural contest and winning awards. This spring, Anastasiya Pryamukha, a student of the eighth form of the Nikolayevsk secondary school, won the third place. The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov proposed her to take part in the contest of environmental, ecological educational and creative projects among the schoolchildren of Russia, which was held by the environmental and educational centre “Zapovedniki” under the support of the Ministry of Nature and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. Nastya’s project was recognized the best and the student got a free card of admission to “Artek”.

She spent three weeks in “Artek” and was impressed a lot. The camp members were greeted by Sergei Donskoy, the Minister for Environment of the Russian Federation, and Gennady Narayev, the Minister for Environment of the Crimea. The experts of the national, natural and historical parks gave master-classes and told the children about their cherished territories and their work peculiarities. Anastasiya joined the clubs of “Astronomy” and “Reserve Special Forces”, where she learned a lot, broadened her outlook and visited the panorama and diorama in Sebastopol, and the Vorontsovsky Palace in Alupka. And the main thing is that Anastasiya got many “Artek” friends.

Taking an active part in the events of “Sholokhov Source” the young ecologists won their deserved awards. The members of the Movement rallies can join “Sholokhov people” and visit a kind of “Sholokhov Artek”, which is a camping site in Lebyazhy Village. There, the Movement members tour by the environmental routes and compete in sport and tourist exercises, literary, toponimic and local history contests and in quizzes.
