The XXIV General Conference of the International Museum Council

14.07.2016

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov took part in the XXIV General Conference of the International Museum Council (ICOM), which took place on July 3–9, in Italy, in Congress-Centre of Milan. The conference was themed “Museums and Cultural Landscapes”.

During the conference, the world’s leading experts presented their talks on topical museological subjects focused mainly on the following issues: the extent to which museums are obliged to assume the role of a centre of interpretation for the territory and community they refer; how museums can disseminate knowledge about the cultural heritage, which is stored both inside and outside their walls. As well, visiting sessions of the International committees were held in the museums of Italy.

The Museum-Reserve took an active part in the work of this conference. The session of the International Committee of Literary Museums (ICLM) was joined by Alexander Sholokhov, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, who gave a talk “Open Air Novel”, and Nataliya Trofimenko, a specialist on international operations, made a talk for the International Committee of Marketing and Public Relations (MPR) on the issue “Open Air Novel: Developing Connections”. The work of the Museum-Reserve on development of tourist attractiveness of the museum, what was said about in the talks, was highly appreciated by the international professional community.

The ICOM General conference is held once every three years. The next conference will take place in Kyoto, in 2019.
