“Summer Holidays in Sholokhov-Centre Go On”

13.07.2016

An interactive project for children “Summer Holidays in Sholokhov-Centre” continues in Sholokhov Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. This is a three-day program including the exhibition “A Find on the Edge of the Earth” and a cycle of master-classes.

The project attracts children of different age. The youngest visitors to the event were our guests from Rostov kindergarten 108 “Lastochka”.

On the first day the children made an expedition to the north attending the exhibition “A Find on the Edge of the Earth” from the collection of the Yamal-Nenets Museum Exhibition Complex named after I.S.Shemanovsky. On hot summer days the young guests felt a breath of the north. The exhibition hall turned into snowy Yamal, where there was a dwelling of ancient peoples, who lived on the territory of the peninsula. The traditional clothes, household utensils, hunting gear and unusual toys told the children about the life and culture of the peoples of the North. The Nenets, Khanty and Selkup are the few peoples, who preserved the traditions and customs of their ancestors.

The mysterious archaeological finds of incredible safety from Ust-Poluy, Mangazea, Voikar and Nadym settlement made the viewers think of the history of those who lived on the territory of the Yamal-Nenets Okrug in different times.

The children were especially attracted by more ancient finds: a sensational mammoth Lyuba, who lived 42000 years ago, a woolly rhinoceros, a reindeer, fossil horses, a prehistoric bison and other animals of the mammoth fauna.

In the next hall the children saw clothes and attributes of shaman, guardian spirits of home and family – Syadai and Myad Pukhutsya, a sacrificial blanket and helmet, and ritual knives.

Following the exhibition the children went to create “A Window into Winter”. They drew a winter landscape in an old technique of “grisaille” (drawing in white and black paints).

On the next day the guests of Sholokhov-Centre worked in the “Art Workshop”. The children trained in the technique of traditional painting of clay toys and other items, painted a clay candlestick made by them during the previous master-class.

The project participants shared their impressions:

“Thank you very much! It was very interesting and informative. Everything was just a breeze. We listened to the guide with interest. We shall come again with all our class. The guides are very friendly! We shall recommend to all our friends! L.B.Peshkova, school 1, Rostov-on-Don.”

“With great pleasure we moved from the summer heat to the world of cold and ice, but thanks to the warm reception of your museum workers we were not frightened at cold. The museum is fine, the excursion and interesting exhibition impressed us a lot. Thank you very much! G.R.Bezgubenko, summer camp “Zhiznetsvetik”. Lyceum 57, Rostov-on-Don.”

“We have come to the museum from kindergarten 108 “Lastochka”. We visited the museum several times. The children are fond of the exhibitions! We appreciate a friendly attitude towards children. The guide’s narration is very interesting, in the form accessible for children. They got interested and asked questions. The children like interactive classes very much.
