Life and Work of M.A.Sholokhov in 1941

22.06.2016

The 1941 was a watershed year in the life of the whole country to shock the mankind. On June 22, the peacetime changed into a fierce struggle for every scrap of the native land and mothers’ pain for their children who went to the front…An exhibition telling about the life of M.A.Sholokhov and his family in 1941 is opened in the Memorial House of M.A.Sholokhov in his Estate.

The exhibition shows photographs, documents and letters from the Museum collections and fragments of the films. The visitors will learn about the life of the Sholokhovs in peacetime, about the writer’s hearing the news of the war commencing, about evacuation of the family to Nikolayevsk on the Volga, about the service of M.A.Sholokhov as a war correspondent for the newspaper “Krasnaya Zvezda” at the Western, Southern and South-Western fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

The unique fragments of the film “Along the Quiet Don” made in the prewar years by the film director L.B.Mazrukho will tell about the Don country.

Though the 1941 was a very difficult year for every family and was full of great losses, an indestructible belief into the victory remained with M.A.Sholokhov. This is evidenced by the parting words addressed to the soldiers of Vyoshenskaya who were going to the front, by the letter to his friend V.M.Kudashev and the inscription on the photograph presented to P.R.Lugovoy.
